Delay.
On Constant Delay is a narrative-driven 3D game that explores the daily struggles of living with obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD).
In the game, you step into the shoes of Leonard, a man whose life is deeply impacted by obsessive thoughts and compulsive behaviors that disrupt his ability to perform simple, everyday tasks. As you navigate through Leonard’s world, you’ll encounter various scenarios that trigger his OCD, illustrating how overwhelming these stimuli can be.

A really nice game. A journey into the OCD psyche in an engaging and empathetic way. The apparent narrative simplicity is actually very complex. Simple things have many facets, more than those that externally seem articulated. None of us are normal, normality does not exist. There are people shaped by the vicissitudes of life. That life that gives and takes away and paves our roads. Choices, consequences, paths. Everything shapes us and leads us to be who we are. Human. No one is perfect. Flaws and virtues, a swing of emotions. We must learn to push in the right direction, to find a balance in our own madness. Love ourselves in moments of despair to emerge from our abysses. Step by step, day after day. And on the darkest days, find the sun in the darkness. Congratulations!
I must preface this with the fact that I don't have diagnosed OCD, but can empathise alot with the experience of having intrusive thoughts and compulsions due to my otherwise mental state at times as well as my Dermatillomania(which some argue is a form of OCD but I digress). That being said, in my humble eyes, I think the representation in this game is amazing, and the gameplay loop/elements perfectly capture the frustration and anxiety. A more subtle(?) thing I loved was the way that the FOV constricts the higher the anxiety, not only mimicking the tunnel vision given by repetitive thoughts and compulsions that you don't feel you have control over but also giving the player an unpleasant sensation that gradually worsens the longer a compulsion is delayed(again, mimicks the lived experience using its format as a game). It's all in all really clever and a GREAT tool imo to introduce people to/get people more familiar with what it's like to have OCD.
Hi Ashers,
first of all, thank you for playing and for the thoughtful message. Thank you also for sharing your experience, we are happy that the design choices had the effect we desired. Thank you again :)
That's a very short, yet very charming game :)
Thank you for your kind words :)
That was very touching, and emotional. Thank you
We are happy that our game has moved you and we thank you for playing it.
As someone with OCD, I just want to say thanks for creating this. Though my triggers are different of course, this really displays the constant bombardment of thought and the constant and sometimes exhausting reputation of activities that goes on. The end was touching to, I sometimes get little moments like that where I can beak the cycle. It's freeing when you can actually get there, even if it doesn't always last. I hope this game helps others understand a bit more about this.
Hello MissSweetViolet :)
We are sincerely touched by your words, and we're really happy that you could identify with the character. It was really our intent to provide a reflective tool, and we hope that Leonard's story can help someone.
Thank you so much for your words and for sharing your experience, we wish you all the best on your journey :)
Congratulation for this game, you managed to make it an intense experience without making it too serious!
As someone with an anxiety disorder, I find Leonard very relatable, but at the same time I can see the differences in our struggles.
I appreciate you giving the character a good relationship with his neighbours, because people with mental health issues are too often represented as isolated. Which they can be, obviously, but not all of us are.
Hi LaChapeliere,
we're glad you tried our game. We really wanted to create an experience that was light but at the same time representative of the protagonist's difficulties. Regarding the relationship with the neighbors, I've got to be sincere: we had not thought about that aspect, but it's true! It's really wonderful to see how everyone can notice different things in the same game :)
That sounds like a powerful project! Raising awareness about OCD is crucial for reducing stigma and helping those affected feel understood. The game offers such a vivid and impactful experience. Projects like this can really foster empathy and connection. A big round of applause for the authors!
Hi Insidethebo.x :)
thank you for the kind words, we really appreciate your support. We hope this project can help raise more awareness :)
I saw your post on the Godot LinkedIn and added it to my queue! I’m looking forward to playing it!
Hi Edmundito,
let us know when you play it. We look forward to hear what you think :)
I feel like I broke the ending btw. I made the choice at the end, clicked through the conversation and I think one mouse click too many made the screen freeze with the OCD logo really dark in the background. I feel I accidentally clicked through some ending screen as well.
Thank you for bringing this to our attention :)
Really nice! It looks really good and polished. And, you really convey that feeling of anxiety very well. I feel like I understand people that suffer from these kind of compulsions a bit better. Well done!
Hello Swoopie,
We're glad the game has helped you better understand this condition. Thank you for playing it :)
That's a very short, yet very charming game :)
Great job.
Hi Cevantime,
we're so glad you liked the game :) thanks for playing it.
